A comprehensive liturgical formation programme for lectors, choir members and parish liturgical ministers was held at Kayyar Parish on Sunday, July 26, to deepen their understanding of the Sacred Liturgy and prepare them for the implementation of the New Revised Konkani Missal.
The programme was led by Fr Rohith D'Costa, Secretary of the Diocesan Commission for Liturgy, Diocese of Mangalore, and was organised by Fr Vishal Monis, Parish Priest of Kayyar, in collaboration with the Parish Commission for Liturgy.
During the Holy Mass, Fr Rohith D'Costa offered a catechetical reflection on the meaning and importance of the Sacred Liturgy, highlighting the active, conscious and fruitful participation of the faithful in the Eucharistic celebration. Following the Mass, he conducted a practical training session on the New Revised Konkani Missal, explaining the revised texts, responses and liturgical norms, and guiding the participants through the celebration to ensure uniform and meaningful implementation in the parish.
The second session was dedicated to the lectors. Fr D'Costa reflected on the dignity and responsibility of proclaiming the Word of God, explaining the structure of the liturgical year, the significance of the liturgical seasons and the Lectionary. He also offered practical guidance on preparing for the readings, correct pronunciation, voice modulation, posture, use of the microphone and reverent proclamation of the Scriptures.
A separate session was conducted for the choir members, focusing on the ministry of sacred music in the liturgy. Emphasising that sacred music is an integral part of worship, Fr D'Costa explained the importance of choosing liturgically appropriate hymns, especially Eucharistic hymns, and outlined the Church's guidelines for choir ministry. He encouraged the choir members to lead the faithful in prayer through music with reverence, simplicity and devotion.
The programme witnessed the enthusiastic participation of lectors, choir members and parishioners. The participants appreciated the practical orientation and expressed their commitment to serving the Church with greater understanding, reverence and fidelity to the liturgical norms.
