A training programme for catechism teachers, titled “Skilling Catechists for Vibrant Sunday Catechesis – Tips and Tools for Catechists,” was held on Sunday, August 16, at the LCS Convention Hall, Bejai Church premises. A total of 98 catechism teachers from various parishes of the Diocese of Mangalore participated in the programme.
The programme was organised by Mangala Jyothi and hosted by Bejai Parish, with the aim of equipping catechism teachers with practical skills and effective methods for vibrant and engaging Sunday catechesis.
Rev. Dr. Gilbert Choondal, SDB, served as the resource person. Through practical and interactive sessions, he introduced participants to various tips, tools and methodologies that can enrich the teaching-learning experience in catechesis. Demonstrations and practical sessions enabled the catechism teachers to understand and apply the methods in their own parish catechetical ministry.
The programme also included the celebration of the Holy Mass, providing the participants an opportunity to place their ministry of evangelisation and faith formation at the feet of the Lord.
The programme was graced by Fr Stany Pereira, Parish Priest of St Francis Xavier Parish, Bejai; Fr Jeevan D’Souza, Assistant Parish Priest; Fr Johnson Sequeira, Principal, LCS, Bejai; Fr Vincent Sequeira; Secretary, Bible Commission and Fr Rohith Dcosta Director, Mangala Jyothi; and the Vice President, Secretary and Coordinator of the Parish Pastoral Parishad, Bejai, along with the Catechism Coordinator of Bejai Parish.
The organisers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all for their valuable support and cooperation in hosting the programme.
The formation programme concluded with a renewed commitment among the catechism teachers to make Sunday catechesis more vibrant, participatory, creative and faith-centred.
